Which benzodiazepine has a greater risk of abuse – alprazolam or zolpidem?
Thursday, May 27th, 2010Alprazolam (Xanax) is a relatively short-acting benzo used for anxiety and panic disorder. It tends to be merely sedating.
Zolpidem (Ambien) is a much shorter acting benzodiazepine-like drug used for insomnia. It is sedating, but also tends to be (in my experience) substantially more disinhibiting and causes memory impairment.
Which of these two medications has been shown to be more liable to be abused? Which has a greater detrimental impact to the patient when abused?
Interesting prescription drug to write essay on?
Wednesday, May 26th, 2010I have to write an essay on the risks and benefits for one specific prescribed drug. I was going to do diazepam (valium) but I am finding it hard to find proper references for this (we need to use medical journals, and things like that).
What is a common prescription drug that has risks and benefits that I could do my essay on?
Much appreciated!

Monday, May 24th, 2010Anxiety medication?
Monday, May 24th, 2010I have had problems with pretty severe social anxiety for years. I am in treatment now for an eating disorder, which I mostly used to manage my anxiety. I have made tremendous progress through exposure therapy, but I’m still wondering whether or not I should take medication. It has been recommended to me, but not really pushed by my therapist.
Does anyone have any experiences with anxiety meds? Do you think I should be taking them or is it better to do this through other means (i.e. exposure therapy/meditation etc)?
Thanks!
